This item is a somewhat rare off-white type,

However, the capacitor plays a role in "assisting the instantaneous stability of power supply," and in some mid-range models where voltage tends to be unstable, especially during startup or playback, the one with a capacitor may exhibit more stable behavior.
In fact, it is presumed that KENWOOD shifted to capacitor-less battery cases in later models due to design revisions of the MD unit itself.
