More information about ANTIQUE 18th Century German Enamel Snuff Box - Handpainted Garden Scenes - GOOD

This is an exquisite German enamel rectangular snuff box. This piece was assessed by Sotheby's to date circa 1760 and to be of German origin. The box is metal, enamel covered and framed in copper colored metal. The background enamel is white. The handpainted scene on the top is a couple in full dress exploring a garden. The front and back sides each have a lady seated in the garden, the sides and bottom each show shrubbery. Inside the lid is an additional scene of a lady in full dress standing in the garden.

The box measures 2.5 inches (6 cm) long, 2 inches (4+ cm) wide and stands about 1.25 inches (3 cm) high. It is notable that there are cracks in the enamel, appropriate to it's age, that are extremely noticeable on the lid. There are also some small chips to the enamel on the bottom corner. Please examine the pictures closely.

This is a rare piece that has been in my family's collection for a long time.
