Book description: Obasan, a 1981 historical fiction novel by Joy Kogawa, is about a Japanese-Canadian family during World War II. The story follows Naomi Nakane, a 36-year-old middle school teacher in 1972 Alberta, as she reflects on her childhood experiences of displacement, internment, and discrimination.
