A very very solid item, with heavy ornate embellishments of gilted metal, bronze. Amazingly, all marcasite stones are present on both containers. The Châtelaine has four parts. First is the purse, notice the hand hammered silver work, very possibly sterling. Also the hand sewing detail. The longer tube container was used to hold sewing needles it is fastened shut, and presents thick metal scrollwork. The smaller container opens to a miniture pin cushion. Has all of its marcasite stones. The largest container also has some of the grandest ornate metal work, with hand cut black glass stones on each end. This container is fastened shut by the age of time. A combined weight of 156 grams. A beautiful item hung from larger hoop skirt during the Victorian era.
